Texas Slim comes from a younger set of southern artists influenced by contemporary musicians like Johnny Winter or Stevie Ray Vaughan, but is dedicated to playing authentic electric urban blues. He's a passable guitarist and singer but nothing flamboyant; he gets the job done in workmanlike fashion. All of these tracks are originals, some distinctive by their current-day references to technology or what he sees on network television news. Blues-rock, funky or slow soul, and a bit of acoustic or boogie styles are represented in a program that is fairly typical, but comes straight from the heart of the Lone Star state. ~ Michael G.
